BIRNAM Arts Centre is hosting a Songwriting Workshop on Saturday, February 23, from 10am until 5pm, presented by Phil Rasmussen.
Phil has been involved in songwriting for 18 years, having studied music at Strathclyde University from where he graduated in 1999 with a BA Honours degree specialising in composition. His music has featured in short films, websites, adverts and podcasts, and he is also a session musician and university lecturer.
The workshop does not require participants to be able to read music notation but they should have a prior knowledge of chords either on keyboard or guitar.
The workshop will concentrate on a chord based method for successful songwriting. Many styles of music will be examined to reveal very similar tricks and techniques.
There will be an in-depth look at lyrics as well as some aspects of poetry and various sources of inspiration.
Participants work in groups to experiment with the methods shown during the workshop, the fee for which is £22.
